I Hate Pathfinder

So, for the past year, I have tried to get some "alternative" game off the ground.  A friend tried mentioning Mouse Guard, which has gone nowhere.  I have tried "Dark Heresy", but get the usual cry about how the characters aren't all that tough.  Then, no one wants to play "Deathwatch", because Space Marines are boring.  I've tried to get friends to play Savage Worlds, Fiasco, Cosmic Patrol and more.  All are just seen as not interesting.

Last Free RPG Day, I ran the Only War demo, the new 40K RPG that was forthcoming.  I managed to pull in three players and decided to play it again with another GM so that he would have enough players to have any fun with it.  This is where Pathfinder, or rather the players piss me off.

While we are looking to scrounge players for demos of our games, there are small packs of Pathfinder players looking to for another Pathfinder GM to appear, as all the Pathfinder slots were full.  Here are a bunch of guys that would rather bitch about not getting to play than try something a little different.

This is not a rant against the system on its face.  Rather, this is a rant against what Pathfinder brings.  For those of you that brew up your own scenarios, this isn't entirely leveled in your direction.   It's the whole buy the system, then the module, then game that ideology.  It is essentially the McDonald's of the RPG world.

Maybe this is really an MMO problem being visited upon the world.  All players do the same quests, but they get a different feel for it due to it being their character that participated in it.  At my Friendly Local Gaming Store, there were over 30 people all playing what appeared to be the same adventure.  I can't feel that I would be content with that, much less running it.

Once again, I'm back on the field of battle, tilting at windmills.  This time, it's the Iron Kingdoms RPG that has taken my fancy.  In theory, there are others that are interested in playing.  So far, only one other player.

Fuckin' Pathfinder.
